Lockdown

Today in class we had a lock down and we had to have a plan for if it actually does happen and then we had a tornado or severe weather drill. We also learned about Hammurabi's laws. These are some that were interesting to me.

1.  If any one ensnare another, putting a ban upon him, but he can not prove it, then he that ensnared him shall be put to death.
2. If any one bring an accusation against a man, and the accused go to the river and leap into the river, if he sink in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house. But if the river prove that the accused is not guilty, and he escape unhurt, then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser.
3. If any one bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged, he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death.

Notetaking

Today in west civ, we got a textbook for this course. I didn't know that we got a book for this course, but it makes sense since this class is more about historical times than human geo ever was. We had to give Mr. Schick our number on the book and after that, we got to work. We took a lot of notes today on writing systems and how communications were before that. I learned that there was no paper to write on so they wrote into clay. In my opinion, I like how Mr. Schick puts up the slides and makes us write the important information because i can learn and comprehend what he's teaching better. We got about 3 slides of a lot of information done before the bell rang. Western civ today was like any other class, but I'm glad I'm getting information for an upcoming test or quiz

Girl Rising

In west civ today, we talked a lot about the movie we watched called "Girl Rising". It was about girls who were told what to do, who, and when they were going to marry. The girls were basically slaves.Towads the end of the film, girls rose up and stood up for themselves to set them free. I think that this was a really inspiring film and it should give you something to think about. After watching this, I felt very lucky and that I shouldn't take things for granted. I felt that I should start being more thankful for what I have and not just think about what I don't have because there are other people in the world who have nothing. Overall, talking about the movie today was really interesting and I have to say west civ was a really good class today.

First class

Today was our first west civ class ever, but we had an extremely weird bell which made our class only about 15 minutes long. Our bell was because we were watching a movie called Girls rising, but we still managed to set up everything correctly. There were new people that have never had Mr. Schick before so he went over how to set up a blog and everything else. Its weird starting a different course in the middle of the year because it feels like a whole new year. It also feels different without some of the people that moved out of your section because you get used to the class you were in last semester. Overall, I hope western civ will be good and easier than human geo.
